BUKIT KAYU HITAM, KEDAH, MALAYSIA February 28, 2026 – Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today conducted a personal working visit to the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQS) Bukit Kayu Hitam following the recent shooting incident targeting a vehicle driven by the Commander of the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS).
He said his presence was not merely to assess the current situation and receive a detailed briefing. More importantly, he wanted to meet AKPS personnel face-to-face, see the ground conditions with his own eyes, and ensure their morale and spirit remain unbroken despite the shocking incident.
“We all understand that incidents like this have an impact. It is no small matter. However, I stress that we will never retreat or compromise with any threats against national security and our officers,” Saifuddin firmly stated in his official statement.
The minister also directed AKPS Director-General Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain to immediately enhance security protection for officers suspected of being targeted.
“We will continue to provide full support not only morally, but also in terms of logistics, equipment and any other necessities required to ensure our personnel can perform their duties safely and effectively,” he said.
He emphasised that securing the country’s entry points is a major responsibility, and the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) will ensure that those entrusted with this duty are not left to face the risks alone.
The working visit was made following the shooting incident on the vehicle of the AKPS Bukit Kayu Hitam Commander on 25 February, which also saw police arrest several suspects in a short span of time.
Saifuddin reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening national border security to ensure no threats can disrupt public order and the country’s sovereignty.
