THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS February 28, 2026 – The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in The Hague has strongly condemned what it describes as attacks on civilian areas in central Tehran, accusing the United States and Israel of targeting residential buildings amid ongoing military operations.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) today, the embassy said: “Several residential buildings in central #Tehran have been hit. During the 12-day war, many homes were also destroyed, & civilians — including women & children — were killed. #US & Israeli regimes are villains. #HandsOffIran.”
The post, shared by the official account @IRAN_in_NL, includes a video reportedly showing damage from the strikes. It comes as multiple independent reports confirm explosions and plumes of smoke rising over central Tehran on Saturday morning, with strikes reported near government and residential districts including areas around Pasteur Street, University Street, Jomhouri area, and Seyyed Khandan.
This marks the latest escalation in tensions, eight months after the so-called “12-day war” in June 2025, during which Israel and the US conducted strikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites. Iranian officials have repeatedly highlighted civilian casualties from that earlier conflict.
According to Iranian state media outlet IRNA, US and Israeli airstrikes began around 10 a.m. local time, with additional explosions reported around noon. Residents described hearing loud blasts, air-defense activity, and seeing smoke rising over the capital. International outlets including The New York Times, Al Jazeera, and Euronews have verified videos and eyewitness accounts of strikes in densely populated parts of Tehran.
The Iranian embassy’s statement frames the latest attacks as part of a pattern of aggression by Washington and Tel Aviv. It has not yet released an official casualty figure for today’s incidents, but earlier reports from the June 2025 war documented civilian deaths, including women and children.
Iran has vowed a “crushing” response, with reports of Iranian missiles launched toward Israel. Air-raid sirens sounded across parts of Israel as the situation continues to develop rapidly.
The developments have sparked international concern, with diplomatic missions monitoring the situation closely. Further updates on casualties, damage, and potential retaliation are expected in the coming hours.
