BUKIT KAYU HITAM, KEDAH, MALAYSIA February 25, 2026 – The Commander of the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC) Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir, escaped unharmed after his Proton X70 vehicle was fired upon twice by two unidentified suspects early this morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:40 a.m. while SAC Mohd Nasaruddin was driving alone to Masjid Al Muhajirin in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, to perform the Subuh (dawn) prayers. Two masked individuals, dressed entirely in black and wearing full-face helmets, approached his vehicle on a motorcycle. One of the suspects fired two shots, hitting the rear right door and the front left passenger door. Reports indicate that one bullet narrowly passed close to his face through the open driver’s window, but a sudden brake maneuver is believed to have saved his life.
SAC Mohd Nasaruddin attempted to pursue the suspects for about one kilometer before they escaped into a nearby industrial area. Kedah Police Chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Arms Act 1971 (for discharging a firearm with intent to cause death or injury). Fragmented bullet evidence suggests the use of a semi-automatic weapon.
Police have not ruled out retaliation from smuggling syndicates, as the AKPS Bukit Kayu Hitam unit recently conducted successful operations, including the seizure of large quantities of smuggled goods such as 100 tons of rice and pork at the ICQS Bukit Kayu Hitam complex near the Malaysia-Thailand border.
Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has described the incident as serious and expressed relief that the commander is safe.
“The government views seriously the shooting incident involving the AKPS Commander at the country’s entry point. I am grateful that he is safe. This incident is being thoroughly investigated by the Royal Malaysia Police.
Security at all national entry points remains under control. Additional security measures have been activated immediately to ensure the safety of personnel and the public. I wish to assure that the government will not compromise with any threats to national security. Stern action will be taken against those involved.
At this time, I urge the public not to engage in any speculation and to give space to the authorities to conduct the investigation professionally,” he said in an official statement.
No arrests have been made so far, and investigations continue to identify the suspects and establish the exact motive. Members of the public with any information are encouraged to contact the police to assist in the probe.
Security at the Bukit Kayu Hitam border, one of the main entry points to Thailand, remains a government priority in combating smuggling activities and security threats.
