KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 2026 — Singer Faizal Tahir says patriotic songs do not have to be dressed in rousing arrangements to work. What matters more, he said, are sincere lyrics and a strong melody that can move listeners and deepen love for the country.
Faizal, whose real name is Ahmad Faizal Mohammad Tahir, 48, said a song should leave a meaningful message — especially with the younger generation who will inherit the country’s future.
“…we need to look at what we want to get from the song,” he told reporters at a meet-and-greet session at Bendang KL recently.
The Mahakarya Cinta singer said any effort to reach Generation Z and Generation Alpha must take into account their preference for music that is lighter and less complex. At the same time, he wants the same works to stay relevant and enjoyable for older listeners, without watering down the values and messages they carry.
His drive to write patriotic material, he said, comes from nearly two decades in the music industry, his role as a father, and what he has seen while travelling abroad.
“I cannot sit in Parliament, nor can I be involved in administering the country. So, as a Malaysian, this is what I can do. This is my contribution,” he said.
Faizal is now in full rehearsal for Faizal Tahir: Suara Rakyat, scheduled for Oct 3 at Unifi Arena. He said he is also watching his health to keep the show on track.
The concert, themed Suara Rakyat (Voice of the People), will feature 27 songs.
“Music has a very important place in society and communities in conveying a message. The Suara Rakyat concert is about conveying the message that, as Malaysians, we can sit together, stand together and defend our country,” he said.
About 80 per cent of tickets have been sold.
