BANGI, SELANGOR, MALAYSIA January 23, 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated today that Malaysia would find it difficult to provide early support for the proposed establishment of a Security Board for Gaza unless there are clear and strong guarantees ensuring the safety and rights of Palestinians, particularly those in Gaza.
Speaking to reporters after performing Friday prayers at Surau Al Amin, Section 8, Bandar Baru Bangi, Anwar emphasised the importance of concrete assurances.
“We are monitoring the developments and sharing our views, but it is quite difficult to extend support without truly solid and firm guarantees on the future of the people in Gaza and Palestine – including recognition, a complete halt to the brutal and barbaric attacks by the Israeli regime, and the full restoration of humanitarian aid. These have not yet been achieved, making initial support challenging,” he said.
Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s cautious approach toward the initiative announced by United States President Donald Trump on 16 January, which aims to establish the board as a key component of the second phase of a plan to end the ongoing war in Gaza.
He added that the Malaysian government has yet to receive detailed and clear information about the proposed board.
The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid ongoing international discussions on efforts to bring peace to the conflict-ravaged region.
