TEHRAN, January 14, 2026 – Iranian state television broadcast footage from a massive funeral procession on Wednesday showing mourners carrying a large banner with an apparent death threat directed at U.S. President Donald Trump. The banner, prominently displayed during the live coverage, featured the Persian text “این بار خطا نمیرود” – translated as “This time, it won’t miss” or “This time, there will be no mistake” – alongside a photograph widely associated with the July 2024 assassination attempt on Trump.
The broadcast covered the funeral procession for the bodies of more than 100 “civilian martyrs and security defenders,” according to on-screen text overlays. Thousands of mourners filled the streets, carrying portraits of the deceased and chanting slogans, in what appeared to be a state-organized event honoring victims of a recent incident.
The banner’s message appears to reference the failed assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a bullet grazed his ear but did not fatally wound him. The implied threat – that any future attempt “won’t miss” – was captured multiple times in the state TV footage, which focused on the crowd and the signage.
The clip quickly spread on social media, with one widely shared post on X (formerly Twitter) from account @BRICSinfo describing it as Iranian state TV “airing a death threat” to President Trump. The post garnered thousands of views and sparked heated reactions online.
Iranian officials have not publicly commented on the banner or its inclusion in the broadcast. The Islamic Republic has long maintained hostile rhetoric toward the United States, particularly since the U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal under Trump’s first administration and the 2020 killing of IRGC commander Qasem Soleimani.
The incident comes amid ongoing regional tensions, including Iran’s support for proxy groups and recent exchanges with Israel. U.S. officials have not yet issued a public response to the footage.
This development underscores persistent animosity between Tehran and Washington as the Trump administration navigates its second term.
