PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA December 30, 2025 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim praised the successful maintenance of a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, achieved through negotiations hosted in China, describing it as a strong demonstration of commitment to upholding universal peace and stability.
In a video statement shared on his official X account during a special media session in Putrajaya, Anwar highlighted how the truce aligns with the principles of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord, a Malaysia-brokered agreement earlier in the year that helped de-escalate the 2025 border crisis between the two ASEAN neighbours.
“The success of Cambodia and Thailand in maintaining the ceasefire through negotiations in China reflects a firm resolve to uphold universal peace and stability, in line with the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord,” Anwar said.
He emphasised that the involvement of all parties has ensured that this peace brings benefits not only to Malaysia and ASEAN but to the entire world.
“Peace is the foundation of prosperity and well-being for all,” he added, underscoring that global security is essential for everyone’s welfare.
The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid Malaysia’s ongoing role as ASEAN Chair in 2025, where it has played a pivotal mediating role in regional conflicts. Earlier efforts included facilitating foreign ministers’ meetings in Kuala Lumpur to prevent escalation along the Thailand-Cambodia border.
