MELAKA, November 2, 2026 – Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has visited a 37-year-old woman left bedridden by a stroke in Cheng, Melaka, under the Ziarah Kasih (Caring Visit) programme, with help for daily necessities and nerve treatment channelled to her and her family, according to Ketua Pengarah (Director-General) of Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia (JaPen) Erwin Khairul Ahmad.
In a post shared on X on November 2, 2026, Erwin said he had accompanied Fahmi the previous day on the Ziarah Kasih visit to Puan Nurfarawahida, 37, in Cheng, Melaka, who is bedridden as a result of a stroke. He said assistance for daily necessities and nerve treatment had also been channelled to help her and her family. The post carried a short video of the visit.

Cared for by her mother
The visit took place on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Kampung Cheng in Paya Rumput, Bernama reported. The national news agency identified the woman as Nurfarawahida Zainal Abidin, who is single and unemployed, and said she is receiving nerve massage treatment from a neurologist in Melaka. The second of four siblings, she is now cared for by her mother, Sarah Husin, 64, Bernama said.
Zakat application still pending
Speaking to reporters after the visit, Fahmi said such outreach was important not only for understanding the health and welfare problems people face, but also for spotting wider administrative and policy issues.
“This is an important programme that allows us to reach out to, engage with, and strive to understand the issues faced by individuals who may be dealing with health or welfare-related challenges. We can take the time to examine not just the problems of a single individual, but also issues that are more systemic or policy-related in nature,” he said, as quoted by Bernama.
He said Nurfarawahida’s family had told him they had applied for zakat aid but had yet to receive it. “When we look into cases like this, we can try to expedite matters by reaching out to the relevant authorities to understand the nature of the problem – for example, if there are any administrative issues,” he said.
Fahmi said continued monitoring of welfare cases at the grassroots level would help identify delays in the distribution of aid so that the agencies concerned could coordinate with the authorities to resolve them. He added that the initiative would continue so that community grievances are addressed and those in need are not overlooked.
Second household visited
Bernama also reported on X that the minister’s Ziarah Kasih programme that day included a visit to Rostam Abd Ghani at Taman Paya Rumput Permai, who also faces health problems. Malaysia Gazette reported that Rostam has problems with his eyesight and that the Pakatan Harapan candidate for the N.13 Paya Rumput state seat, Datuk Azman Abidin, was present during the visit. The visits come during the campaign for the Melaka state election, with polling set for November 14, 2026. Neither Erwin’s post nor the Bernama report gave a value for the assistance channelled to the family.
JaPen’s role
JaPen, which comes under the Ministry of Communications, is the government’s main agency for explaining policies and initiatives to the public at federal, state and district levels. Erwin took the helm of the department on June 22, 2026, as its 20th Director-General, according to Harian Metro.
