Sabah Floods: PM Anwar Inspects Damage, Pledges Swift Recovery Efforts

SABAH, Malaysia. September 19, 2025 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim visited several flood and landslide-affected areas in Sabah this evening to assess the devastation firsthand. The natural disasters have severely impacted multiple districts across the state, leaving communities in urgent need of aid.

Expressing deep concern, Anwar highlighted the critical situation at the Gaya Campus of the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) and the Country Heights Penampang apartments, both heavily damaged and requiring immediate action. He directed federal and state agencies to expedite repair processes and evaluate the need for additional funding.

“The priority now is to restore homes and provide essential supplies to the victims,” he stated.

Despite the challenges, Anwar was moved by the resilience of Sabahans. During visits to temporary evacuation centers at Sekolah Kebangsaan St Paul Kolopis and Kampung Sarapung, he noted the unwavering spirit of the affected residents.

“I am deeply touched by the strength of Sabah’s people, who can still smile in the face of adversity. Rest assured, the federal and state governments will work tirelessly to restore your lives as quickly as possible,” he said.

The Prime Minister extended his highest appreciation to the security forces, disaster management teams, and volunteers who risked their lives to ensure the safety of those affected. He also commended Sabah Electricity workers for their relentless efforts to restore power. Anwar paid special tribute to the late Masedeh Rosmin, a worker who tragically lost his life during relief operations.

“Your sacrifice for the people of Sabah will be remembered forever,” he said.

Anwar also expressed gratitude to Sabah Chief Minister and state authorities for their swift response since the disaster struck, prioritizing the safety and welfare of residents.

In closing, the Prime Minister prayed for strength for all those affected and urged collective efforts to rebuild lives in Sabah.

“May Allah SWT grant resilience to the victims and ease our shared mission to restore normalcy,” he said.
