KUALA LUMPUR, April 27, 2026 — UMNO President Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has described the current political developments in Negeri Sembilan as a situation where parties naturally seek “opportunities,” following the dramatic withdrawal of support by 14 Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen for Pakatan Harapan (PH) Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Zahid said: “Dalam politik tentu ‘peluang’ sedang dicari dan itu ‘peluang’ mereka” (In politics, of course ‘opportunities’ are being sought and that is their ‘opportunity’).
The comment comes hours after all 14 UMNO-BN assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan unanimously announced they had lost confidence in Aminuddin and were withdrawing support for the state government. The move, led by Negeri Sembilan BN chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, stems from dissatisfaction over Aminuddin’s handling of an ongoing crisis involving the state’s royal institution and several Undang (traditional district chiefs).
With the backing of the five Perikatan Nasional (PN) assemblymen, BN now claims a slim majority in the 36-seat Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly.
Zahid stressed that the decision was made independently by the state-level assemblymen, although the national UMNO and BN leadership had been briefly informed beforehand. He added that the central leadership will now study the political implications and discuss the matter at the UMNO Supreme Council and Political Bureau meetings.
“The decision made by the UMNO assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan is their own decision,” Zahid said. He also confirmed plans to meet Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss the situation.
Perikatan Nasional has publicly stated it is “prepared” to work with the 14 BN assemblymen to form a new state administration.
The political crisis has thrust Negeri Sembilan into turmoil, raising questions about the stability of the PH-BN unity government that has ruled the state since the 2023 state polls. Aminuddin, from PKR, has so far insisted he will continue in office despite losing his majority.
This is the latest test of the fragile federal unity government alliance between PH and BN, with analysts warning that any fallout could ripple into national politics ahead of the 16th General Election.
Life News Agency will continue to monitor developments in Negeri Sembilan.
