FLORIDA May 2, 2026 – U.S. President Donald Trump has signaled that Washington could restart military strikes on Iran if the Islamic Republic “misbehaves,” even as his administration reviews a fresh 14-point peace proposal from Tehran aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday evening at an event in West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump stated there is a “possibility” of renewed U.S. action. “If they do something bad, there is a possibility it could happen,” he said, according to Reuters. The comments come just days after a fragile ceasefire took hold and amid stalled negotiations.
Iran submitted the new 14-point proposal through Pakistani mediators earlier this week. It reportedly includes phased steps such as reopening the Strait of Hormuz, easing the U.S. naval blockade, and addressing Iran’s nuclear program at a later stage. Trump has described himself as “not satisfied” with the offer but confirmed his team is reviewing the “exact wording.”
The remarks have heightened tensions in the region. A senior Iranian official warned that war with the U.S. is “likely” to resume, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated its forces remain “fully prepared” for any escalation.
Iranian state media and semi-official outlets have described the latest proposal as a good-faith effort to de-escalate, while accusing the U.S. of using military threats as leverage.
The White House has not set a firm deadline for a response but indicated that talks remain open alongside the military option.
