WASHINGTON D.C. April 23, 2026 – President Donald J. Trump announced Thursday that the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon has been extended by three weeks after what he described as a “very well” meeting in the Oval Office.
“The Meeting went very well! The United States is going to work with Lebanon in order to help it protect itself from Hezbollah. The Ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon will be extended by THREE WEEKS,” Trump said in a statement posted by the White House on X.
The extension builds on a 10-day truce Trump helped broker around April 16, following direct talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. The latest agreement aims to create space for longer-term peace negotiations while addressing security concerns along the Israel-Lebanon border.
According to White House officials, the April 23 meeting included Israeli and Lebanese representatives, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA). The administration has pledged U.S. support to strengthen Lebanon’s ability to counter Hezbollah’s influence and prevent the militant group from using Lebanese territory as a launchpad for attacks.
Trump has indicated plans to host Netanyahu and Aoun at the White House in the coming weeks to advance discussions on a durable resolution.
The announcement comes amid ongoing regional tensions. Critics on social media have questioned the timing and enforcement of the ceasefire, with some reports of continued activity near the border. Supporters, however, hail the move as a demonstration of decisive U.S. leadership and “the art of the deal” in action to stabilize the region.
Life News Agency will continue to monitor developments as both sides work toward a permanent agreement.
