KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 (Bernama) —Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching today visited the family of late Makkal Osai senior editor Dr Rajan Boopalan in Selayang to offer condolences and support following his death.
During the 20-minute visit, Teo conveyed her sympathies to Rajan’s widow, A Saraswathi, and their three children. She also presented a contribution to help ease the family’s financial burden.
Teo said she had visited Rajan while he was receiving treatment at Selayang Hospital and was saddened to learn of his passing.
“I received news of his passing yesterday morning while I was in Johor. I had visited him at Selayang Hospital. His condition was quite critical, but I never expected to receive news of his death so soon,” she told reporters.
She said Rajan’s contributions to the media industry and the country would be remembered.
Rajan, 68, died at Selayang Hospital at 4 am yesterday.
He was among the recipients of assistance under the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM fund, which Teo presented on Oct 7 while he was receiving treatment at the hospital. His wife received the contribution on his behalf.
Rajan had been hospitalised following an incident on Sept 8, when he reportedly fell in the bathroom at home. Medical examinations revealed a ruptured blood vessel in his brain.
He subsequently underwent surgery to remove a blood clot before receiving further treatment at Selayang Hospital.
He had also received assistance from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA on Jan 6, 2025, following health complications involving his lungs and liver.
