KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) —The National Library of Malaysia (PNM) is open to expanding strategic collaborations to raise public awareness of nuclear technology and its applications in everyday life.
PNM director-general Edy Irwan Zulkafli said the participation of the Malaysian Nuclear Agency in Media and Information Literacy Week 2026 provided an opportunity to explore ways of sharing nuclear-related knowledge with the public.
He said the collaboration could lead to initiatives targeting the wider community, including science enthusiasts.
“As a collaborative partner, we believe we can look more closely at how this knowledge can be disseminated more widely,” he told Bernama after the opening ceremony of Media and Information Literacy Week 2026 at PNM today.
Edy Irwan said explanations of nuclear technology applications in medicine had helped visitors understand uses they might not have encountered before.
He also stressed that printed materials remained important in helping the public develop a deeper understanding of scientific topics, despite the growing use of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI).
“Although we are moving towards technology and AI, books are still important. Printed publications help our community continue reading,” he said.
PNM has millions of materials and knowledge resources that could be shared with the public, he added, particularly as verifying information on social media becomes increasingly challenging.
Held from Oct 24 to 25, Media and Information Literacy Week 2026 featured workshops, competitions, talks, exhibitions and interactive activities covering digital literacy, AI, finance, science, language and creativity.
