KUALA LUMPUR — Team Vamos have made a winning start to the MPL Malaysia Season 18 playoffs, beating Singapore-based Team Flash 3-1 in their best-of-five Round 1 series on October 28, 2026, to book a place in the upper bracket semifinals.
The result, recorded by match tracker MLTV, sends the third-seeded side into a meeting with second seed Team Rey on October 29, 2026, at 3pm Malaysia time, with a spot in the upper bracket final at stake.
For Team Flash, the defeat ends their season. Under the Season 18 playoff format listed on Liquipedia, the third- to sixth-placed teams contest Round 1 as single-elimination series, while the top two seeds receive a bye straight into the upper bracket.
Natco and Claw Kun lead the way
Natco was the standout performer for Team Vamos across the four games, finishing the series with 14 kills, no deaths and eight assists, according to MLTV’s scoreboard. Teammate Claw Kun also went the whole series without dying, adding seven kills and 20 assists.
Overall, Team Vamos outscored Team Flash by 33 kills to 23 across the series.
The win extends Team Vamos’ recent edge in the fixture. The two sides met twice in the regular season, with Team Vamos winning 2-1 on August 14 and 2-0 on October 11, according to MLDB match records.
Selangor Red Giants waiting
Team Vamos finished the regular season third in the official MPL Malaysia standings with a 10-4 match record, level on wins with second-placed Team Rey. Team Flash finished sixth at 5-9, while Selangor Red Giants topped the table with an 11-3 record.
The second Round 1 series, between fourth seed Invictus Gaming and fifth seed Bigetron MY by VIT, is scheduled for 7pm on the same evening. The winner will face Selangor Red Giants in the other upper bracket semifinal on October 29 at 7pm.
All playoff matches are best-of-five except the lower bracket final and the grand final, which are best-of-seven. According to the official MPL Malaysia website, the lower bracket final is set for October 31 and the grand final for November 1, both at 5.30pm.
Season 18, which carries the theme “MY Time. MY Era”, began on August 14 with its regular season played at the Quill City Mall convention centre in Kuala Lumpur, Liquipedia notes. Every game this season uses a random “Annual Map Change” twist, from dense “Dangerous Grass” bushes and “Broken Walls” shortcuts to “Flying Cloud” platforms and “Expanding Rivers” that boost movement speed.
The road to M8
The Malaysian playoffs come as the rest of the region settles its domestic champions ahead of the M8 World Championship in Istanbul, Türkiye. In the Philippines, Aurora Gaming PH won their first-ever MPL Philippines title on October 25, coming from 1-2 down to beat Team Falcons PH with a surprise Estes strategy, GMA News reported. Team Falcons PH had earlier become the first Philippine team confirmed for M8, ABS-CBN Sports reported.
Malaysian fans will now be watching to see whether Team Vamos can carry their momentum into Thursday’s clash with Team Rey.
