KUALA LUMPUR — Kathy Bates’ hit legal drama “Matlock” is now streaming on Netflix in Malaysia, giving local viewers a chance to catch up on both seasons, including the 16-episode Season 2, before the series returns for a third season in 2027.
The CBS series arrived on Netflix in several international markets this month under a licensing deal with Paramount. Netflix revealed the deal in its fourth-quarter earnings letter in January, saying it had licensed 20 shows from Paramount, Deadline reported at the time. “Matlock” was among the titles licensed for international territories, while the show is not available on Netflix in the US.
Netflix’s Malaysia website lists “Matlock” as available to stream, while streaming tracker Flixboss lists both seasons — 19 episodes in Season 1 and 16 in Season 2 — on the service across markets including Singapore, Thailand, Australia and South Korea.
The series has made an early mark with international audiences. Rankings compiled by FlixPatrol show “Matlock” entered Netflix’s official Top 10 TV lists in more than 25 countries in the week of Oct 5 to 11, including at No. 5 in Singapore, No. 3 in Australia and No. 4 in Poland.
Created by Jennie Snyder Urman, “Matlock” stars Oscar and Emmy winner Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a brilliant lawyer in her seventies who uses a mild-mannered persona to land a job at a prestigious law firm while secretly pursuing a personal agenda. The cast also includes Skye P. Marshall, Jason Ritter, Leah Lewis and Beau Bridges.
Season 2 ended in the US with a two-hour finale on CBS on April 23, which concluded the long-running Wellbrexa storyline. Snyder Urman told TV Insider that the finale would serve as a reset for the series, with a new mystery to be introduced in Season 3.
CBS renewed “Matlock” for a third season on Jan 22, calling it Thursday night’s No. 1 entertainment programme. Unlike its first two seasons, which premiered in the autumn, Season 3 will debut midseason in the 2026-2027 US broadcast schedule, expected in early 2027. No exact premiere date has been announced.
Snyder Urman said she asked the network for the later slot. “We had so much stuff to think about because we really landed the plane on this,” she told TV Insider, adding that the team needed time “to really build the architecture” for the next seasons.
Seasons 1 and 2 of “Matlock” are streaming on Netflix in Malaysia.
