KUALA LUMPUR, May 1, 2026 — The Rain Rave Water Music Festival 2026 made a spectacular debut last night in Bukit Bintang as part of the Sambutan Hari Pekerja Sedunia (International Labour Day) celebrations, drawing more than 50,000 enthusiastic locals and international tourists.
Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing, who attended the event, described the atmosphere as extremely lively and energetic in a post on X.
“Since the afternoon, the surrounding area was already filled with people. The presence of local visitors and tourists from various countries made the atmosphere even more packed, alive, vibrant and energetic, with total attendance throughout the day exceeding 50,000,” he wrote.
After the official opening ceremony, the festival reached its peak as the crowd and performers moved in unison to the rhythm of the music. Water sprays, cheers and dancing filled the entire space, creating a spontaneous and joyful celebration.
In a fun moment captured in photos from the event, Dato’ Seri Tiong himself went on stage to join the water spraying activity — only to be playfully “retaliated” upon and left completely soaked.
Despite the huge turnout, the Minister praised the excellent organisation and crowd control.
“What impressed me most was that even though the area was packed with people, the situation remained under control and orderly. All parties cooperated and showed mutual respect,” he said.
He also highlighted the cultural sensitivity shown by organisers when all activities were temporarily halted for the azan (call to prayer) before resuming — a clear reflection of Malaysia’s respect for its multi-ethnic and multi-religious society.
Dato’ Seri Tiong linked the successful opening directly to the spirit of Tahun Melawat Malaysia 2026 (Visit Malaysia Year 2026).
“This is the spirit we want to bring through Visit Malaysia 2026 — not just to attract more tourists, but to give everyone the opportunity to share the same space and experience Malaysia’s uniqueness as a multi-racial, open and vibrant nation. When everyone can enjoy and share this experience together, it is already very meaningful to me,” he added.
The three-day Rain Rave Water Music Festival continues until May 2, 2026.
