MELAKA, October 31, 2026 – Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says Melaka deserves leaders who are trustworthy, hardworking and have integrity, and who are committed to the well-being of the state’s people, Bernama reported.
The Prime Minister, writing in a Facebook post on Saturday, said he was confident that voters in the 16th Melaka state election would choose PH candidates who, he said, are committed to bringing real improvements and positive change to the state, according to Bernama.
“Melaka deserves leaders who are trustworthy, have integrity and are dedicated to working for the people and their well-being,” Anwar said.
“I am confident that the people of Melaka will choose HARAPAN candidates who will work to bring meaningful improvements and real change to the state. Melaka Rumah Kita! (Melaka Our Home),” he added.
PH in 24 of 28 seats
PH is contesting 24 of the 28 state seats, fielding 10 candidates from PKR and seven each from DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), Bernama said.
According to the Election Commission’s (SPR) candidate list, 79 candidates are in the running after nomination closed on Saturday. Besides PH’s 24, Barisan Nasional (BN) is fielding 23 candidates, Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) 16, Bersatu seven and Perikatan Nasional (PN) five, with three independents and one candidate from Putra.
The SPR’s list shows 11 straight fights, 11 three-cornered contests and six four-cornered contests across the state.
BN banks on track record
Barisan Nasional, which led the outgoing state government, is making its own case to voters. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, BN’s candidate for Tanjung Bidara, said on nomination day that he was banking on his administrative experience and track record to retain the seat and keep Melaka a BN stronghold, Bernama reported.
“It is not that young candidates cannot serve, but they must possess solid experience. A candidate must combine experience with competence, as we are managing a population that spans all age groups, from the youth to the elderly,” Ab Rauf told reporters in Alor Gajah. He faces PH’s Mohd Yunazri in a straight fight for the seat.
Polling on November 14
The SPR has fixed November 14 as polling day for the 16th Melaka state election, with early voting on November 10. The 14-day campaign began after nominations closed on Saturday.
