PUTRAJAYA June 6, 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced an additional allocation of RM50 million to strengthen Malaysia’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) 2.0 programme, emphasising the need for practical skills and industry collaboration to prepare the workforce for a rapidly evolving economy.
Speaking at the National TVET Day 2026 celebration, Anwar stressed that formal education alone is insufficient to meet future industry demands. “Malaysia cannot rely solely on the education system to produce a workforce truly aligned with industry needs,” he said.
“In a fast-changing world, mastery of knowledge must be accompanied by practical skills, continuous training, and the ability to adapt to new economic requirements,” he added.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of stronger synergies between the government, universities, and industry players to provide graduates with real-world exposure and training. This collaborative approach, he noted, ensures that talents are not only qualified but fully prepared to contribute to national growth.
As part of the government’s commitment to upskilling workers, boosting productivity, and creating better career opportunities for youth, Anwar formally announced the extra funding from the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK) High Impact Programme Fund. The allocation aims to expand access to quality training, deepen industry partnerships, and develop a highly skilled workforce capable of tackling future economic challenges.
The announcement was made during the ongoing National TVET Day celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya, which runs from June 5 to 7 under the theme “TVET: The Top Career Choice.” The event showcases exhibits from various sectors including advanced manufacturing, robotics, automation, and digital technologies.
Accompanying images from the event show Anwar engaging with vocational training displays, inspecting robotics and automation equipment, and interacting with students and industry representatives.
The government has consistently prioritised TVET as a key driver for economic transformation under the Malaysia MADANI framework. This latest injection of funds builds on previous allocations to position TVET as a premier career pathway for young Malaysians.
The three-day event features participation from over 100 agencies, institutions, and industry players, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors. It serves as a platform to promote TVET programmes and highlight career opportunities in high-demand sectors.
