BATU PAHAT, JOHOR July 10, 2026 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim visited DUN Rengit in Batu Pahat yesterday alongside Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Haji Mohamad Yazid Bakri, engaging with the Orang Asli community and local residents ahead of the Johor state election on Saturday, July 11.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Anwar highlighted the strong turnout at the event despite alleged threats against the Tok Batin and Orang Asli residents. He praised the community for refusing to be intimidated by what he described as “dirty and outdated tactics” aimed at silencing their voices.
“Alhamdulillah, many came out to support HARAPAN even though there were threats against the Tok Batin and the Orang Asli community here. Tonight they proved they are not at all afraid of dirty and stale tactics to silence the voice of the Orang Asli community,” Anwar wrote.
During the visit, he received numerous complaints about basic infrastructure, particularly the unresolved water supply problem under the current Johor state government. He also referenced issues with dilapidated health clinics in the area.
Anwar criticized the state administration for failing to deliver satisfactory basic amenities in a wealthy state like Johor. He called for change in Saturday’s election, stating that PH is prepared to take responsibility based on its track record at the federal level in resolving long-standing public issues and completing delayed projects, including in Johor.
“Johor needs change in this Saturday’s election. HARAPAN is ready to shoulder the trust with the record we have proven at the federal level… Let’s redden Johor and move the state forward for a better and fairer future for all. Johor Ke Depan. Undi HARAPAN,” he said.
The 2026 Johor state election will see all 56 seats in the Johor State Legislative Assembly contested. In the Rengit (N25) constituency, PH’s Mohamad Yazid Bakri faces BN’s Zaidi Japar and PN’s Syed Mohamad Syed Alwi. The seat was previously held by BN-UMNO’s Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi, who is not contesting this time.
Anwar’s appearance in Rengit forms part of PH’s final-day campaign blitz across multiple locations in Johor as the official campaigning period ends tonight.
The Prime Minister’s remarks underscore PH’s focus on infrastructure and basic services as key campaign issues in the contest against the incumbent Barisan Nasional-led state government.
Johor state election polling day: Saturday, 11 July 2026.
