WASHINGTON D.C. — May 4, 2026 — President Donald J. Trump today celebrated America’s small business owners, calling them hardworking, resilient, and “finally treated right” by his administration during a White House Small Business Summit.
Speaking in the East Room to more than 130 small business owners from across the country, President Trump highlighted the vital role small businesses play in the U.S. economy as the nation observes National Small Business Week (May 3–9, 2026).
“As small business owners and operators, the people in this room represent the 36 million businesses who create 40% of all economic activity in the United States,” Trump said. “Think of that. A group of people added together you’re essentially the most important factor, business wise, in the whole country.”
He continued: “You’re the lifeblood of the American economy… and with your help we are truly making America great again.”
The White House shared a video clip of the remarks on X (@WhiteHouse), underscoring the administration’s commitment to supporting small businesses.
The summit also recognized 2026 National Small Business Week award winners and spotlighted key administration policies, including efforts to make permanent the 20% small business tax deduction.
Small businesses employ nearly half of America’s workforce and are widely viewed as the engine of job creation, innovation, and community strength.
