MELAKA October 25, 2026 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has described Pakatan Harapan (PH) as a coalition held firmly together by loyalty and comradeship, telling party workers ahead of the Melaka state election that the bond has been tested since September 1998.
In a post shared on X at 12.26pm on Sunday, Saifuddin said he had opened his speech the previous night with that message because it was important for the wider PH family and its Melaka election machinery to keep hold of the same spirit. The post carried a 109-second video of his speech, marked “Penamaan Calon PRN Melaka, 24 Okt 2026”, from the coalition’s candidate announcement.
“Pakatan Harapan ini satu gabungan politik yang sudah teruji sekian lama. Ini adalah rakan perjuangan yang setia,” he told the crowd in the video. He described the coalition as a story of loyal friendship that began in September 1998 and has continued to the present day.
Four commitments in government
Saifuddin said it was because of that bond that, when PH was given the mandate to govern the country, all of its component parties agreed on and committed to four main priorities. The first, he said, was political stability as the foundation for effective administration. The second was economic prosperity through continued efforts to strengthen the national economy.
The third, according to his post, was the welfare of the people, which must always come first once politics is stable and the economy is prospering. The fourth, which he called the key to all the others, was good governance, with the nation’s finances managed prudently.
In the video he spelt out what that meant in blunt terms. “Urus tadbir kewangan jangan bocor, jangan boros, jangan tiris, jangan overspending. Jangan sekali-kali terlibat dengan rasuah,” he said, urging that public finances should not leak, should not be wasted and should not be overspent, and that there must never be any involvement in corruption. If that discipline is kept, he said, the government’s finances will be safeguarded.
“Through thick and thin”
Saifuddin said he was proud to be part of PH, a coalition that he said was bound by the value of comradeship, of sharing hardship together and of managing the people’s victory together. In his speech he put it more vividly, saying the partners had risen and fallen together and had been through sickness and fever together.
“Datanglah ujian politik bagaimana pun rupa wajahnya. Selagi kita berpegang kepada nilai politik itu, Pakatan Harapan adalah satu gabungan politik yang akan terus bertahan,” he said, meaning that whatever form a political test might take, the coalition would endure as long as its members held fast to those values. In his post, he added that PH would remain committed to carrying out the people’s trust. He closed with the hashtags #PakatanHarapan, #MelakaRumahKita and #YakinMADANI.
Campaign machinery launched
The speech was delivered on Saturday night (October 24) at Stadium Hang Jebat, where PH announced its candidates and launched its election machinery for the 16th Melaka state election. As LNA reported earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that PH would contest 21 of the 28 seats in the state assembly, with PKR taking nine, DAP seven and Amanah five. The Election Commission (SPR) has fixed nomination day for October 31, early voting for November 10 and polling for November 14.
