PUTRAJAYA May 28, 2026 – Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a telephone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, to strengthen longstanding bilateral relations and address key regional developments.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Anwar said the leaders discussed efforts to further enhance Malaysia-Pakistan cooperation across various areas. He also conveyed Aidiladha greetings to Sharif and the people of Pakistan, emphasising the spirit of sacrifice and brotherhood to promote peace and prosperity within the ummah.
The two prime ministers welcomed positive progress in negotiations between Iran and the United States, particularly discussions on reopening the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, which is critical for regional trade stability and security. Anwar expressed Malaysia’s appreciation for Pakistan’s constructive mediation role and its readiness to host the next round of talks.
“Malaysia remains steadfast that all disputes must be resolved through dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful approaches to ensure stability in West Asia,” Anwar stated.
The leaders also addressed the situation in Gaza and Lebanon, urging the international community to speak out and take firm action to stop Israeli violence against civilians.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening Malaysia-Pakistan ties based on friendship, mutual respect, and shared goals of global peace and prosperity.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Office issued a similar readout, noting the warm and cordial exchange on the occasion of Eid ul-Adha, with mutual greetings exchanged. Sharif’s office highlighted Anwar’s appreciation for Pakistan’s role in regional ceasefire and peace efforts.
The call underscores the close diplomatic coordination between Malaysia and Pakistan amid ongoing West Asian tensions, with both nations positioning themselves as advocates for dialogue and stability.
