JOHOR BAHRU, June 14, 2026 — Malaysia’s Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong expressed delight over the warm community response to the Jualan Rahmah Madani programme held at Pasar Awam Taman Perling on Sunday.
Liew, who is also the Member of Parliament for Iskandar Puteri, visited the public market and highlighted the success of shifting such subsidised sales events from large supermarkets to local wet markets. He has long advocated for this approach to better support small traders and make essentials more accessible to residents.
Accompanied by photos from the event, Liew noted the lively atmosphere as shoppers took advantage of discounted daily necessities. The programme, organised under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), offers goods at Rahmah prices, often up to 30% cheaper, alongside cash vouchers under the “Jom Beli di Pasar” initiative.
“With cash vouchers and Rahmah sale prices, consumers can purchase daily essentials at lower costs. Hopefully, this effort can ease the cost-of-living burden for the people of Perling,” Liew said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
The event aligns with the government’s ongoing expansion of Jualan Rahmah Madani, which has recorded millions of transactions nationwide and continues to be rolled out weekly across constituencies.
Shoppers at the market were seen buying fresh produce, seafood, and household items, with vendors reporting strong sales. Liew interacted with both traders and residents during the visit, underscoring the programme’s role in supporting local economies while helping families cope with rising living costs.
The Jualan Rahmah Madani initiative remains a key part of the Madani government’s efforts to address inflation and provide direct relief to the rakyat. Similar events are expected to continue in other areas.
