TEHRAN April 23, 2026 – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared Thursday that Iran has no internal divisions between “hardliners” and “moderates,” insisting the entire nation stands united as “Iranians and revolutionaries” under Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei amid ongoing regional tensions with the United States and Israel.
In a post on X, Pezeshkian wrote: “In Iran there are no ‘hardliners’ or ‘moderates’. We are all Iranians and revolutionaries. With ironclad unity of nation and state and obedience to the Supreme Leader, we will make the aggressor regret. One God, one nation, one leader, one path; victory for Iran, dearer than life.”
The statement appears to be a direct rebuttal to recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested deep rifts within Iran’s leadership between pragmatic elements and hardline factions aligned with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). It also comes as diplomatic efforts in Pakistan stall and a fragile ceasefire between Iran, the U.S., and Israel shows signs of strain.
Recent incidents in the strategic Strait of Hormuz—including Iranian forces firing on and seizing vessels, alongside U.S. naval operations against ships allegedly laying mines—have kept tensions high despite the temporary halt in major hostilities, which some Iranian media have dubbed the “40-day war.”
Analysts say Pezeshkian’s message is aimed at projecting a unified front both domestically and to the international community, countering any perception of weakness or factionalism that could be exploited by adversaries. It marks one of the most explicit denials by a senior Iranian official of the long-assumed political divide within the Islamic Republic’s power structure.
The president’s remarks echo similar unity appeals issued by other Iranian officials in recent days as the country navigates the aftermath of direct military exchanges and the ongoing economic fallout from sanctions and conflict.
No immediate reaction from Washington or Tel Aviv was available at the time of publication.
