PUTRAJAYA, 29 Sept 2026 — The government has launched full funding for the Ubat Melalui Pos (UMP) initiative, under which eligible patients will receive follow-up medicines by post at no delivery cost from 1 October 2026.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad launched the funding today. The programme is a strategic collaboration between the Ministry of Communications, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and the Ministry of Health (MOH).
The aim is to make it easier for patients to obtain follow-up medication without returning to a health facility, and to encourage greater use of digital health services.
From 1 October, delivery costs for follow-up medicines for eligible patients will be fully borne for one year. MCMC said the nationwide rollout is expected to benefit 80,000 patients a month, with estimated delivery costs of RM5 million covered in full.
MCMC will coordinate implementation in its role as the national postal sector regulator. MOH will remain responsible for determining patient eligibility and supplying the medicines. Deliveries will be carried out by Pos Malaysia Berhad.
The move follows Fahmi’s announcement at the launch of the National Digital Health Ecosystem and Connectivity Drive (PERSADA) on 15 June, and is presented as part of the government’s wider effort to expand access to healthcare services.
