KUALA LUMPUR, 28 Sept 2026 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced State Dignitary Funeral honours for the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, who died this morning at the age of 100.
In an official statement posted on his X account, Anwar expressed condolences on behalf of the MADANI Government and the people of Malaysia following the passing of the wife of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. She died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at about 9.20am.
“The nation will continue to remember her maternal presence and appreciate her service,” Anwar said. He has directed the Chief Secretary to the Government and the Chief of the Armed Forces to assist with arrangements and accord her State Dignitary Funeral honours.
Anwar also offered his thoughts and prayers to Tun Dr Mahathir and the family. “May Allah SWT forgive all her sins, accept her good deeds and place her among the faithful. Al-Fatihah.”
Her remains were taken home to the family residence at The Mines, Seri Kembangan, Selangor, at about 10.48am for the ritual washing. Funeral prayers are scheduled after Asar at Masjid As-Syarif, Taman Sungai Besi Indah, before burial at the Precinct 20 Cemetery in Putrajaya.
The death was confirmed by her son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir. Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah also conveyed their condolences. Anwar earlier invited participants at the International Future Conference 2026 to recite Al-Fatihah before officiating the event.
Born on 12 July 1926 in Klang, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah was among the earliest Malay women medical officers in Malaya. She married Mahathir in 1956 and they had seven children. During her husband’s terms as prime minister, she was known as Ibu Negara and was active in public health, women’s welfare and social causes.
