TIRAM, JOHOR June 27, 2026 — Environmental advocate and public servant Nor Zulaila Abd Ghani, fondly known as Lily, is making her electoral debut as Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) candidate for the Tiram (Ulu Tiram) state seat in the upcoming 16th Johor State Election on July 11.
The 38-year-old Muar native, who has served as a Kajang Municipal Councillor since 2018 brings over 12 years of experience in community development, local government administration, and public service to the campaign.
Known for her strong environmental advocacy, Nor Zulaila has been active in initiatives promoting sustainable development, conservation efforts, and green community projects in Selangor and beyond. Her background has positioned her as a voice for balancing economic growth with environmental protection — a key concern for voters in rapidly developing areas like Tiram.
Environmental NGOs Rally Behind Her Candidacy
Several environmental non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have pledged their support for Nor Zulaila, viewing her as a candidate who understands the intersection of development and sustainability.
Leaders from groups focused on freshwater conservation, peatland restoration, and community-based green initiatives have publicly endorsed her, citing her track record in grassroots environmental work. “Lily’s commitment to responsible governance and environmental stewardship makes her the ideal representative for Tiram,” said a spokesperson from one leading Malaysian environmental network.
Supporters from the NGO community plan to mobilise volunteers for her campaign, organising town halls on issues such as flood mitigation, green jobs, waste management, and preserving local green spaces amid urban expansion. They aim to amplify her platform on creating high-income opportunities while ensuring sustainable development for Tiram residents.
DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke, who announced her candidacy, described Nor Zulaila as the right person to contest the Malay-majority seat, emphasising her sincerity and ability to address local issues.
With nomination day concluded and the 14-day campaign period underway, Nor Zulaila’s bid represents PH’s push to field credible, community-oriented candidates in competitive constituencies.
Her campaign will focus on job creation, infrastructure development, and environmental sustainability — messages expected to resonate with younger voters and environmentally conscious residents in the area.
