IPOH, Aug 13 (Bernama) — A mother’s determination to secure her son’s future has become an unexpected blessing after Encik Muhammad Yaa’sin Muhamad Pilus, a person with Down Syndrome from Trong, Perak, was announced as the RM100,000 BSN Sijil Simpanan Premium (BSN SSP) winner for the State Draw – Bonus Prize category in May.
For Puan Suzanah Ismail, 54, a pharmacy assistant under the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM), the win represents far more than a financial windfall. It is the culmination of more than a decade of consistent saving, driven by a hope to provide greater financial security for her 24-year-old son, who has mild Down Syndrome.
More than 10 years ago, Puan Suzanah began her savings journey with BSN SSP under her son’s name. Starting with contributions according to her financial circumstances at the time, she remained steadfast in setting aside small amounts consistently to ensure he would have financial security and greater peace of mind for her son in the years ahead.
Although her son is currently unemployed due to his condition, she has always remained committed to building a financial safety net for him. Like many parents of children with special needs, planning for his long-term wellbeing has always been one of her greatest priorities.
“As a mother, my greatest concern has always been my son’s future. That is why I started saving bit by bit under his name so that one day he would have something to rely on. I never imagined that our savings journey would lead to this blessing. When I received the news that my son had won RM100,000, I was overwhelmed with gratitude and emotion. This prize is not just about the money, but the peace of mind it brings. It gives me comfort knowing he will have greater financial security in the future.
“I hope our story encourages other parents, especially those caring for children with special needs, to start saving whenever they can. Even small amounts can make a difference over time, and you never know what blessings may come from being consistent and thinking ahead,” said Puan Suzanah.
