HOLLYWOOD, October 2, 2026 — David Ellison says he wants the newly combined Paramount and Warner Bros. empire to carry the “Skydance” name — and sources tell Variety the studio is already looking at “Barbie 2.”
In a staff memo obtained by Variety, Ellison wrote: “As we bring Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what has made each of these studios iconic. Both have distinct identities, extraordinary legacies and brands that have resonated with audiences for generations… We wanted a name that would give the combined company an identity of its own while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. — and all our extraordinary brands — to remain in the spotlight.”
On the creative side, one source was blunt about the Greta Gerwig blockbuster’s sequel: “There’s no way ‘Barbie 2’ doesn’t happen.” Variety also noted Friday’s shuffle included farewells tied to the Mike and Pam era as Ellison consolidates leadership.
Separate reporting highlighted Skydance’s two-decade track record of franchise and action titles — and the leverage of its Los Angeles headquarters debate — as the mega-studio takes shape.
