AUSTIN — Austin country singer Dylan Gossett, who worked at the Circuit of The Americas before finding fame with his viral hit “Coal”, has narrated Formula 1’s promotional film for this weekend’s United States Grand Prix.
The sport’s official X account posted the 64-second video on Thursday (Oct 22) with the caption: “Welcome to motorsport’s wild frontier. Dylan Gossett, take it away”, alongside a cowboy emoji and the hashtag #F1. Gossett, in a cap bearing his own name and a plain cream T-shirt, delivers the script from around the circuit, including the track itself and the circuit’s red observation tower.
“Everything’s a little bigger out here,” he begins over an image of the Earth from space, before adding: “So when Texas puts on a show, it comes in one size. You better believe it’s big.” Later, standing on the track, he calls Austin “the live music capital of the world”, adding: “You better turn it up loud if you want a headline here.”
The film mixes Texan imagery with racing footage. There are shots of a longhorn steer, a Texas flag, a vinyl record spinning on a turntable, a rider on horseback and a concert crowd, intercut with cars racing at the circuit, a Mercedes and a Haas battling wheel to wheel, and podium celebrations, including a shot of Kimi Antonelli raising a fist in front of a banner bearing his name. Gossett describes “56 laps” of the track and a place “where Formula 1 goes Texan style”, before signing off with: “Y’all better buckle up.” The video closes over the star-spangled run-off areas of the circuit with the words “All to drive for”.
The choice of narrator has a strong local connection. Born in Austin in 1999, Gossett studied at Texas A&M University and, after graduating in 2021, interned with Formula 1 in event operations and logistics at the Circuit of The Americas, where he was later hired full-time. He began posting songs on TikTok while working at the track, and “Coal”, released independently in July 2023, reached the Billboard Hot 100. He sang the US national anthem before the 2023 United States Grand Prix.
Gossett has since become one of the leading new voices in Texas country music. He signed with Big Loud Texas/Mercury Records, released his debut album, Westward, in July 2025, and followed it with Ramblin’, an album inspired by his hometown, in September this year. “Coal” has been certified double platinum in the United States, according to his label.
The film sets the scene for a weekend that could crown a new champion. Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli leads the standings on 340 points, 102 clear of team-mate George Russell, and will be champion in Austin if he wins, with Russell ninth or lower and Lewis Hamilton fifth or lower. The Circuit of The Americas will remain on the calendar until 2034.
The United States Grand Prix runs from Oct 23 to 25, with qualifying at 4pm local time on Saturday and the 56-lap race starting at 3pm on Sunday, which is 4am on Monday (Oct 26) in Malaysia. The original Formula 1 post can be viewed on X: https://x.com/F1/status/2113329544086073794.
