MEXICO CITY — Kimi Antonelli has locked in the 2026 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship on 380 points after finishing third at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Formula 1 posted the updated picture on X with the message: “Kimi Antonelli locks in the Drivers’ Championship on 380 points!” alongside a standings graphic after the Mexico City race, confirming the title in black and white for the watching public.
The Mercedes driver’s third-place finish, worth 15 points, delivered the mathematical certainty that had been closing in for weeks. He entered the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez weekend needing only ninth place regardless of Lewis Hamilton or George Russell, and left Mexico City as champion with 380 points on the board.
According to the official standings graphic released by Formula 1 after the race, Antonelli sits clear at the top on 380. Max Verstappen is second on 261, Hamilton third on 259, Russell fourth on 250 and Charles Leclerc fifth on 245.
That cluster underlines how tight the battle for second has become: only 16 points separate second from fifth after Mexico City. Lando Norris is next on 221, with Oscar Piastri on 144, Isack Hadjar on 105, Liam Lawson on 81 and Pierre Gasly rounding out the top 10 on 44 in the graphic.
Race day itself supplied the points that closed the title fight. Verstappen took 25 for the win in 2:20:28.772, Hamilton 18 for second at +0.799s and Antonelli 15 for third at +4.006s, with Leclerc and Norris scoring 12 and 10 respectively in fourth and fifth.
The path to that podium was anything but quiet. An opening-lap Ferrari battle, mid-race red flag after Valtteri Bottas crashed at Turn 1, and a late Safety Car for the Lindblad–Piastri collision all threatened to scramble the order. Antonelli still emerged with the result he needed.
A later Formula 1 post also noted that Mercedes had taken another step toward Constructors’ glory after Mexico City. The drivers’ crown, however, is already decided in Antonelli’s favour at 20 years and 68 days old — the youngest champion the championship has ever had.
The newly crowned champion and his rivals head next to São Paulo for the Grand Prix of 6–8 November 2026, where the fight for the remaining places in the standings will continue even as the top step of the drivers’ table is settled. The graphic’s gold highlight on Antonelli’s 380-point total left little room for debate about who had sealed the crown.
