KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 — Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Monday visited former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN).
In a post on X, Zahid said he spent time that afternoon paying a visit to the Bera Member of Parliament.
“I pray that he continues to be given strength and good health, that all his affairs are eased, and that he is granted a complete recovery,” Zahid wrote.
“May he recover soon and be able to resume his daily life as usual, Insya-Allah.”
The post was accompanied by a photograph showing Zahid smiling and holding Ismail Sabri’s hand as the former prime minister sat up in his hospital bed.
Ismail Sabri was admitted to IJN after experiencing health problems on Aug 6 while recording a statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). He later underwent a successful leadless (wireless) pacemaker implantation procedure to treat an abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia).
The Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court postponed the reading of charges against him to Aug 27 after being informed of his medical condition. The charges are believed to be related to asset declaration matters linked to investigations involving the Keluarga Malaysia initiative during his tenure as prime minister.
IJN had earlier confirmed the procedure was successful and advised Ismail Sabri to rest, initially limiting visits to immediate family members.
Zahid’s visit comes a few days after Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim also called on Ismail Sabri at the institute.
