PUTRAJAYA, November 6, 2026 — The Ministry of Digital is stepping up efforts to build Malaysia’s local digital and artificial intelligence (AI) talent ecosystem, saying Budget 2027 has placed future-ready human capital at the centre of the country’s aspiration to become an AI Nation by 2030.
In a media statement, the ministry said the push is aimed at ensuring that the people and the national economy gain the maximum benefit from digital technology and AI.
The ministry said the effort is aligned with the Malaysia Digital 2030 Action Plan (MD2030) and the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030 under the MADANI Economy framework, as well as the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan (RMK-13).
It stressed that Malaysia does not merely aspire to be a user of technology. Instead, the focus is on building the capability of Malaysians and local companies to produce digital and AI solutions that solve real problems faced by the people, the public sector and industry.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the ministry’s role is to bring together the strengths of government, industry, academia and the community as a catalyst for the nation’s digital and AI ecosystem, according to the statement.
Anchored on MD2030 and with the strong backing of Budget 2027, the ministry’s main focus is to equip local talent with world-class skills so that they move from simply knowing about technology to building Malaysian-made applications and solutions, the statement said.
The ministry said its goal is to produce more Malaysian-made solutions that benefit the people, meet the country’s needs and have the potential to break into wider markets.
Agencies and their roles
To achieve this, the ministry said it coordinates direction and connects relevant agencies and ecosystem partners through the following agencies and implementing entities:
GovTech Malaysia drives innovation and the development of public-sector digital solutions through a Whole-of-Government approach, including identifying agencies’ real needs, developing prototypes, and testing and implementing digital and AI solutions across agencies.
The National Digital Department (JDN) strengthens the governance and coordination of public-sector digitalisation through policies, standards, digital architecture and technical support, to ensure government systems are integrated securely, cohesively and interoperably.
The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) supports the growth of digital companies, industry development, the commercialisation of innovation and the expansion of market opportunities for local technology companies.
MyDIGITAL Corporation builds learning and engagement pathways for the public through initiatives such as Rakyat Digital, Global Learning Pass, AI untuk Rakyat and Rakyat Builders.
AI Malaysia Berhad drives the implementation of the national AI agenda and builds a safe, trusted and responsible AI ecosystem.
The ministry added that it remains ready to widen collaboration with local companies, start-ups, universities, training providers and technology communities to complete the ecosystem through expertise, research, product development and knowledge-transfer programmes.
The ministry said the MADANI Government is committed to ensuring that every investment and fiscal allocation translates into tangible results, namely more high-value technology creators, more competitive local companies and safe, ethical AI governance.
