SEREMBAN, Aug 2 2026 — The Democratic Action Party (DAP) has accepted the results of the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election with humility, saying it will thoroughly review the outcome and work to regain public confidence after suffering a significant setback.
In a statement issued early Sunday, DAP National Chairman Gobind Singh Deo said the party respects the people’s verdict and congratulated those elected to form the next state government.
“The voters of Negeri Sembilan have delivered their verdict in the 16th State Election, and we accept this outcome with full humility,” Gobind said. “We thank every voter who supported Pakatan Harapan and DAP. We are also deeply grateful to all our candidates, members, volunteers and party workers who gave their all throughout this campaign.”
Official results showed Barisan Nasional winning 18 of the 36 seats, Pakatan Harapan 11, and Perikatan Nasional seven. The BN-PN combination secured a two-thirds majority, ending PH’s control of the state after two terms.
Gobind specifically acknowledged the defeat of DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke in the Chennah seat. Loke, who had held the constituency for three consecutive terms, lost narrowly to BN-MCA candidate Siow Kong Choon after a closely fought contest.
“Loke has served both the party and the people with distinction over many years, and we are certain he will continue to do so,” Gobind said.
The DAP chairman noted that the party has faced setbacks before and described the election message as clear. “We must and will undertake a thorough assessment of the outcome, listen carefully to the concerns of the people and work hard to regain their confidence and support.”
He added that DAP respects the mandate given by voters and hopes the new state government will govern responsibly while prioritising the interests of the people.
The Negeri Sembilan result marks another consecutive state election setback for the PH coalition, following earlier losses in Johor and Sabah.
