SHENZHEN, November 1 – Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD has reported a sixth consecutive month of year-on-year sales growth, with October deliveries reaching their highest level of the year as sales of fully electric cars passed 300,000 for the first time.
The news aggregator BRICS News reported on X late on November 1, 2026, Malaysia time, that BYD had reported its sixth consecutive month of sales growth. According to a voluntary announcement filed by BYD Company Limited with the Hong Kong stock exchange on Sunday, the company sold 490,168 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in October, compared with 441,706 in the same month last year.
Highest monthly total this year
That represents a rise of 10.97 per cent year on year and 5.74 per cent from September, according to the industry site CnEVPost. October’s figure was BYD’s highest monthly total since December 2024 and its fourth-highest on record. However, growth slowed from 16.98 per cent in September, easing for a third month in a row, the site said.
Reuters reported that BYD relied on overseas markets to counter sluggish demand and intense price competition at home. The company’s filing showed it exported 170,194 NEVs in October, which CnEVPost said was up 102.84 per cent from a year earlier, although down 5.81 per cent from September. Sales in the Chinese domestic market fell 10.57 per cent year on year to 319,974 vehicles, CnEVPost calculated.
Electric cars drive growth
Battery electric passenger cars were the main driver. BYD sold 305,743 of them in October, up 37.38 per cent year on year and a record for the third consecutive month. Plug-in hybrid passenger car sales fell 17.23 per cent to 177,382 units, the segment’s second straight year-on-year decline, according to CnEVPost. Fully electric models made up 63.28 per cent of BYD’s passenger vehicle sales in October, up from 50.95 per cent a year earlier.
In total, BYD sold 483,125 passenger NEVs in October, up 10.59 per cent year on year. Commercial vehicle sales came to 7,043 units, up from 4,850 a year earlier, the filing showed. Over the first 10 months, battery electric passenger car sales rose 5.86 per cent to 1,935,700 units, while plug-in hybrid sales fell 11.02 per cent to 1,625,969. BYD noted that the production and sales figures are unaudited and may be adjusted.
Year-to-date still slightly down
Despite the recent run of growth, BYD’s total sales for the first 10 months of the year stood at 3,621,744 vehicles, down 2.16 per cent from 3,701,852 in the same period of 2025, according to the filing. Year-to-date exports totalled 1,513,154 units, up 93.75 per cent, CnEVPost reported.
The carmaker has been refreshing its line-up. It launched the second-generation Seagull on October 20 and a third-generation Qin Plus DM-i plug-in hybrid sedan on October 27, while the second-generation Seal 07 sedan is due to launch on November 5 with both battery electric and plug-in hybrid versions, CnEVPost reported.
The Shenzhen-based carmaker is listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange under the code 1211. LNA will continue to follow developments.
