Brownsville, Texas Oct 12, 2026 — US actor RJ Mitte, known for portraying Walter White Jr. in the series Breaking Bad and for his work advocating for disability rights, has died at the age of 34, his representatives said.
Mitte died Monday in Brownsville, Texas. His representative Sean Reilly said in a statement: “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte.”
Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte “brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion,” the statement continued. He appeared in all five seasons of the Emmy-winning AMC drama, which ran from 2008 to 2013, and was part of the cast that received a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding ensemble performance in a drama series.
Off-screen, Mitte served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s. He also founded and led The Mitte Foundation, supporting philanthropic efforts and community initiatives while using his platform to challenge stereotypes and promote greater representation for people with disabilities.
The Brownsville Police Department confirmed the actor’s death. Officials said no foul play was suspected, though the cause and manner of death remained under investigation at the time of initial reports, with an autopsy ordered.
Mitte, born in 1992, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age three. His character on Breaking Bad also had the condition. In recent weeks he had been promoting the film Talking to Strangers.
His representatives asked that the privacy of his family and close ones be respected.
