KUALA LUMPUR, April 16, 2026 – Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today extended a warm official welcome to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as he begins a three-day state visit to Malaysia.
The visit, which runs from Thursday until Friday, aims to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations. Prime Minister Anwar personally received Albanese, with the Australian leader and his delegation accorded a full ceremonial welcome that included an inspection of the guard of honour by the 1st Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (1 RAMD).

He added: “Insya-Allah, lawatan ini akan terus memperkukuh usaha diplomatik dalam meredakan ketegangan serantau, di samping memastikan kelangsungan laluan perdagangan antarabangsa serta kestabilan rantaian bekalan tenaga demi kesejahteraan bersama.
“Moga lawatan ini membuka lembaran baharu dalam mempererat hubungan Malaysia–Australia ke tahap yang lebih dinamik dan bermakna.”
In English, Anwar said: “Welcome to Malaysia, Prime Minister Albanese. May this visit further deepen our diplomatic engagement in easing regional tensions, while safeguarding the continuity of international trade routes and strengthening the stability of energy supply chains for our shared prosperity.”
The two leaders were photographed exchanging warm greetings, walking together on a red carpet against the backdrop of Malaysia’s iconic architectural landmarks, inspecting the honour guard, and engaging with Australian delegation members.
The visit is expected to open a new chapter in Malaysia-Australia relations, building on existing cooperation in trade, security, and regional stability.
