SUNGAI BULOH, November 3, 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today visited residents of Kampung Melayu Subang and the surrounding areas who were forced to leave their homes after flash floods struck the area on Monday afternoon, and called for flood mitigation projects to be sped up.
In a post on his official X account, Anwar said he stopped by after his duties in Parliament to meet the families placed at the temporary relief centre (PPS) at Dewan Siantan.
“I took the opportunity to ask after them, hear first-hand the difficulties they face and see the condition and needs of the families who had to leave their homes,” he wrote.
The Prime Minister said he had also discussed additional assistance for the affected families with the Selangor Menteri Besar and the area’s elected representatives. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Sungai Buloh Member of Parliament Datuk Seri R. Ramanan were present during the visit, according to the New Straits Times and Harian Metro.
“My message is that flood mitigation projects, including river widening and the construction of additional ponds, must be accelerated to reduce the risk of a recurrence,” Anwar said.
According to RTM, the Prime Minister told reporters at the relief centre that he was concerned because the area had flooded two or three times. He said he would ask for a progress report on the Federal Government’s flood mitigation projects this Friday, while the Menteri Besar would present the state government’s progress at a state government meeting on the same day.
Anwar also said the government would channel further help to residents, especially those whose homes were damaged by the rising water, with each case to be looked at individually and coordinated with the state government and elected representatives.
The Selangor Social Welfare Department (JKM) recorded 575 victims from 253 families affected by the flash floods in Kampung Melayu Subang, Sinar Harian reported. Eight families, involving 30 people, were sheltering at the Dewan Siantan relief centre, while the remaining 245 families stayed with relatives. JKM Selangor director Azmir Kassim said the centre was not expected to operate for long, possibly two or three days, depending on the weather.
Unusually heavy rain over a short period around Shah Alam on Monday afternoon caused flooding in several places, with Kampung Melayu Subang, TTDI Jaya, Seksyen 13, Bukit Jelutong and stretches of the Guthrie Highway among the worst hit, RTM reported.
According to Utusan Malaysia, Ramanan said a temporary retention pond would be among the immediate steps to reduce the volume of water flowing into residential areas during heavy rain while the longer-term flood mitigation projects for Sungai Buloh and Sungai Damansara are completed in stages.
Later in the evening, Anwar shared a video of the visit, saying it was not easy for families to face such a situation, especially when they had to leave their homes and belongings behind.
“May all the affected families remain steadfast and have their affairs eased. God willing, their assistance and needs will continue to be given attention,” he wrote.
He added that the government would continue to ensure the welfare and needs of the victims were taken care of throughout this difficult period.
