Air India has officially launched nonstop flights between Toronto and Mumbai, BRICS News reported on October 28, 2026, giving Canada’s largest city its only direct air link with India’s financial capital.
“Air India officially launches nonstop flights between Toronto, Canada, and Mumbai, India,” BRICS News said in a post on X, accompanied by images of the Canadian and Indian flags.
The inaugural flight, AI192, departed Toronto Pearson International Airport at 12.30pm on Sunday, October 25, and landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai at 2.10pm local time on Monday, October 26, according to Travelweek. The launch was marked by officials including Mahaveer Singhvi, India’s Consul General in Toronto, along with representatives of Air India, Toronto Pearson and the travel trade.
The seasonal service runs three times a week, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, until March 26, 2027, according to Air India and Toronto Pearson. Air India said it is the only carrier operating direct flights between the two cities, and that the route adds nearly 2,000 seats a week between India and Canada.
The flights are operated by Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with upgraded cabin interiors, featuring eight First Class suites with sliding privacy doors, 40 fully flat beds in Business Class and 280 Economy seats. Wi-Fi is available on board. Passengers can connect in Mumbai to other destinations across India, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi, Toronto Pearson said.
Demand on the corridor is substantial. Citing OAG Traffic Analyzer data, Air India said about 128,000 round-trip passengers travelled between Toronto and Mumbai between June 2025 and May 2026. Until the launch, there was no direct flight between the two cities.
“Canada has long been a cornerstone of Air India’s international network and remains one of our largest overseas markets,” said Nipun Aggarwal, Air India’s Chief Commercial Officer, according to Travelweek. “As we transform Air India, it is only fitting that our guests from Canada are among the first to experience many of the improvements we are making across our airline.”
The new route is part of a wider expansion of Air India’s Canada operations for the Northern Winter 2026–27 season. The airline said overall capacity between India and Canada will increase by 4,400 seats a month and premium seat capacity to Toronto will rise by 71 per cent. It has also begun deploying its brand-new Boeing 787-9 aircraft on Delhi–Toronto flights, bringing its latest cabin product to Canada for the first time. The 787-9 also introduces Premium Economy on the daily Toronto–Delhi service for the first time. Of the ten weekly Delhi–Toronto flights this winter, seven will use the new 787-9, while the remaining three will initially be flown by Boeing 777-300ERs before switching to the newer aircraft from January 2027, the airline said.
With Mumbai added, Air India will operate 20 weekly flights between India and Canada this winter: ten a week between Delhi and Toronto, three between Mumbai and Toronto, and seven between Delhi and Vancouver. From January 2027, all Air India flights departing Toronto Pearson will feature new or significantly upgraded cabins, according to Travelweek.
Flights are available for booking through Air India’s website and mobile app, its customer contact centre and travel agents worldwide, the airline said.
