BUKIT KAYU HITAM, Malaysia. July 25, 2025 (4:34 PM) — The Bukit Kayu Hitam branch of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 200kg of lengkuas (Alpinia galanga), valued at RM3,200, without a valid permit late last night.

The seizure occurred during a routine inspection at 9:40 PM, targeting a container on a truck.
The inspection revealed the 200kg haul, part of an estimated 44,000kg cultivation, lacked proper documentation. The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) confirmed the lengkuas was intended for further distribution, leading to an investigation for potential violations.
The act of importing agricultural products without a permit contravenes Section 11(1) of the Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 [Act 728].
AKPS remains committed to enforcing strict border controls to ensure biosecurity, safeguard the agricultural industry, and protect national food security.
