LONDON, November 7, 2026 — Captain Martin Odegaard scored the only goal as Arsenal beat Hull City 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday to move six points clear at the top of the Premier League.
The reigning champions now have 27 points from their opening 10 league matches, nine wins and one defeat, which the Premier League said on X equals their joint-best start to a Premier League season. Second-placed Manchester City lost 3-1 at Nottingham Forest later in the day.
Hull defended resolutely for more than an hour. Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya had to make a full-stretch save from Elliot Stroud in the first half, while Kai Havertz wasted a one-on-one chance at the other end.
The main talking point of a goalless first half came when Arsenal appeared set to be awarded a penalty after a VAR review of a shirt pull on Havertz by Nobel Mendy. Referee Farai Hallam went to the pitchside monitor, but no penalty was given because Havertz was judged to have been offside. Sky Sports reported that the decision was controversial.
Mikel Arteta turned to his bench in the second half, bringing on Mikel Merino, Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze and Piero Hincapie. The breakthrough finally came in the 72nd minute, when Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis parried a low shot from Noni Madueke and Odegaard reacted quickest to poke home the rebound.
It was Odegaard’s fifth goal of the season and his first since September. Arsenal nearly doubled their lead late on when Madueke tried to round the goalkeeper, but the loose ball was cleared off the Hull goal line.
The win was Arsenal’s fifth straight league victory and their seventh clean sheet in 10 Premier League games. According to Sky Sports, it was also their 34th 1-0 Premier League win under Arteta, more than any other side in the competition since he took charge in December 2019.
Hull are now winless in eight league matches, with five draws and three defeats, Flashscore reported. Arsenal go into the international break with a six-point lead in the title race.
