NOTTINGHAM, November 7, 2026 — Liam Delap scored twice as Nottingham Forest beat Manchester City 3-1 at the City Ground on Saturday, ending a five-match winless run and handing City a third consecutive Premier League defeat.
The result lifted Forest to 16th in the table and out of the relegation zone, the Premier League said on X, while Manchester United dropped into the bottom three. City remain second, six points behind leaders Arsenal.
Forest went ahead in the sixth minute when centre-back Jair Cunha dispossessed Josko Gvardiol, ran through and beat Gianluigi Donnarumma with his left foot. It was Forest’s first league goal at the City Ground this season, ending a home scoring drought that stretched back to the final game of last season.
Delap doubled the lead in the 18th minute. After Xaver Schlager won the ball in midfield, the striker drove forward from inside his own half and lashed a powerful shot past Donnarumma for only his second goal for the club since his move from Chelsea.
City threatened before the break, with Erling Haaland rounding goalkeeper Matz Sels only for Cunha to block his effort. Rayan Cherki then halved the deficit in the 52nd minute, slamming a half-volley into the top corner from the edge of the area after a cross from Jeremy Doku was deflected into his path.
Forest might have restored their two-goal cushion midway through the second half when a shot from Ryan Yates deflected off former Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson and onto the crossbar. The decisive goal came in the 73rd minute, when Delap set Morgan Gibbs-White away on the counter-attack and finished the return pass in off the post.
The victory was Forest’s first home league win of the season and a significant boost for head coach Oliver Glasner, whose side had won just one of their opening nine league matches. Delap, a former Manchester City academy player, had scored once in eight games before Saturday.
For City, the defeat deepened a worrying slump. According to Sky Sports, they are the first top-flight team in 122 years to win their first seven league games and then lose the next three. City have 21 points from 10 matches, while Arsenal have moved six points clear at the top.
