SAN FRANCISCO, November 5, 2026 – Palo Alto Networks is in talks to acquire Clutch Security, a startup that secures AI agents’ access to company systems, for about US$500 million in cash plus milestone-based payouts, TechCrunch reported, citing a person familiar with the discussions.
In a post shared on X, TechCrunch highlighted that Clutch, backed by Lightspeed and SignalFire, was last valued at US$85 million, according to a source. The full report by Marina Temkin said the three-year-old company raised a US$20 million Series A in January 2025 led by those firms and is approaching US$10 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR).
If completed on those terms, the deal would value Clutch at roughly 50 times ARR, TechCrunch said — a multiple it described as common for software companies in a market racing to secure systems against AI-assisted attacks. Palo Alto Networks and Clutch did not respond to TechCrunch’s request for comment. The Information was first to report the talks.
Seventh Palo Alto deal this year
According to PitchBook figures cited by TechCrunch, a completed Clutch purchase would be Palo Alto Networks’ seventh acquisition in 2026. The cybersecurity company has a history of buying capability rather than building every product in-house and has stepped up dealmaking as AI-driven cyberattacks rise.
In September, Palo Alto Networks acquired Console, a two-year-old startup using AI agents to automate routine IT help-desk tasks, in a transaction valued at US$500 million in stock and cash, TechCrunch earlier reported. Other purchases this year, according to regulatory filings cited in the same report, include Embrace (about US$325 million), Chronosphere (about US$2.95 billion) and Koi (about US$231 million).
Crowded AI-agent security field
Rivals in managing AI agents’ system access have also been bought. Cyera acquired Oasis Security for about US$1 billion, while Cisco bought Astrix for roughly US$400 million, TechCrunch noted, citing Calcalist for the Cisco figure. Separately, Upwind recently turned down a DataDog offer valued at about 40 times ARR, TechCrunch reported last week.
Life News Agency has not independently confirmed the Clutch talks with Palo Alto Networks or Clutch. The account rests on TechCrunch’s sourcing and on the secondary report by The Information. No definitive agreement or closing date has been announced publicly by either company.
