Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof attended a Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Supreme Council meeting in Kuching on November 4, 2026, where preparations for the 13th Sarawak State Election were among the matters discussed.
The meeting was chaired by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in his capacity as PBB president, Fadillah said in a post shared on X.
He said the matters discussed included the coordination of the party’s work and its preparations for the 13th Sarawak State Election, the date of which will be fixed and announced by the Election Commission (EC).
The meeting, held at the PBB headquarters in Jalan Bako, Petra Jaya, Kuching, was also attended by Deputy Premiers of Sarawak Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who are both PBB deputy presidents, Fadillah said.
Also present were Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is PBB secretary-general; Sarawak Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, who heads the party’s women’s wing; Sarawak Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Martin Ben, who heads the youth wing; and members of the party’s Supreme Council.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Uggah, who is PBB’s election director, said the party is setting up 13 sub-committees to oversee its preparations for the polls, covering areas including the secretariat, projects and manifesto, intelligence, VVIP visits, logistics and aviation, finance, security and legal matters, the Borneo Post reported. He said members of the sub-committees would meet within the following two days, and that the party’s election manifesto was still being drafted.
Uggah also said he had been appointed Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) director of operations for the coming state election. The coalition’s election working committee is made up of the presidents of its four component parties: PBB, the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
On candidates, Uggah said PBB had given Abang Johari the mandate to decide on the party’s line-up, and that GPS had likewise agreed to leave the final decision on candidates to him, The Star reported. “We’re giving full mandate to our president on the candidacy,” he said.
He dismissed speculation that the meeting had discussed moving incumbent representatives to different constituencies, including any move by Abang Johari to the Tanjong Datu seat. “There is no such discussion. I don’t think there is a need for that discussion,” he said, according to the Borneo Post. Asked when a special meeting on the candidate list would be held, Uggah said no date had been decided, DayakDaily reported.
Abang Johari is currently the assemblyman for Gedong. He represented Satok for 40 years, first winning the seat in a 1981 by-election, before switching to Gedong in the 2021 Sarawak Election, where he won with a majority of 3,607 votes, DayakDaily reported.
Uggah added that the Supreme Council had been briefed on GPS’ state election preparations, and that PBB branches throughout Sarawak had been urged to remain ready for the coming polls. The Star reported that the EC is due to meet on November 6, 2026 to decide the election dates.
