MELAKA, October 31, 2026 – Pakatan Harapan (PH) has rejected a claim by Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai that the coalition was involved in the suspension of Perikatan Nasional (PN) by the Registrar of Societies (RoS), Bernama reported.
Melaka PKR State Leadership Council acting chairman Adam Adli Abd Halim said PH had nothing to do with the troubles facing another party, and described the matter as that party’s own internal problem, according to Bernama.
“We reject that claim. This has nothing to do with us, this is not a strategy, and we are not involved at all. That is their internal conflict,” he said.
He was speaking at a press conference at PH’s main operations room in Melaka, which was also attended by PH secretary-general and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
‘A democratic process’
Adam Adli said PH continued to hold to the principle of clean democracy and was focusing only on service to the people and on the mandate it was offering voters in the 16th Melaka state election.
“We have set out that the contest in Melaka is a democratic process to give the community and voters the chance to decide and choose the state government. It has nothing to do with any unrelated political dispute,” he said.
The claim from Gerakan
Lau made the allegation on Thursday night at PN’s Melaka candidate announcement event, where he claimed the suspension was a political decision and part of PH’s agenda ahead of the state election. He noted that the suspension was dated September 23, the same day the Melaka State Legislative Assembly was dissolved, Sinar Daily reported.
Lau also alleged that the move was linked to efforts to keep Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in office for a second term. These are Lau’s claims, and PH has denied them.
On October 22, the Kuala Lumpur High Court allowed PN’s application to stay the RoS decision to revoke the coalition’s registration, pending the outcome of its judicial review, and also stayed an RoS notice suspending its activities, Bernama reported via Malay Mail. The ruling allows PN to continue its political activities, including contesting the Melaka election.
Young candidates
At the same press conference, Adam Adli criticised what he called personal attacks by certain parties that belittled the ability of the young candidates fielded by PH, describing such remarks as unproductive and at odds with the goal of building the country’s next generation of leaders.
He said PH gave young people room to lead based on merit and ability now, without having to wait until they were older.
“We talk about young people as the leaders of the future, but in PH we believe in their strength and ability to lead today. There is no need to wait until they are older before they are given a chance,” he said.
“That is why we hope voters, especially young voters out there, will take the time to assess what is being offered by the young candidates we have fielded this time,” he added.
The Election Commission (SPR) has fixed November 10 for early voting and November 14 as polling day for the Melaka state election, in which 79 candidates are contesting 28 seats over a 14-day campaign.
