KUALA LUMPUR, October 30, 2026 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has said constituency allocations for the opposition and independent Members of Parliament who signed a confidence and supply agreement (CSA) with the government can be channelled immediately once Parliament passes Budget 2027.
He also rejected claims that the government had been holding back allocations from opposition lawmakers, saying parliamentary allocations for both government and opposition MPs were continuing as usual.
In a post shared on X today, Anwar wrote: “Peruntukan Ahli Parlimen kerajaan dan pembangkang tetap berjalan seperti biasa. CSA ini bukan perkara baharu, sebaliknya meneruskan persefahaman yang pernah diamalkan oleh kerajaan terdahulu.” This means that allocations for government and opposition MPs are proceeding as usual, and that the CSA is nothing new but continues an understanding practised by a previous government.
He added that as soon as the Budget is approved by Parliament, the allocations could be disbursed straight away to ensure development needs in every constituency continue to receive attention and that the benefits reach the people.
‘Nothing odd about it’
In a short video clip of his remarks to reporters, shared with the post, Anwar said the principle behind the agreement was the same as the one he entered into as Opposition Leader, when the government of the day was made up of Umno, PAS and Bersatu. “We discussed and proposed allocations, and that is what was done. So there is nothing odd about it,” he said.
“Even though we are still attacked as if we were blocking them, no. Parliamentary allocations go on as usual, government or opposition,” he said, describing the agreement expressed yesterday as a good development. He said the arrangement was open to anyone who wished to agree to it under the method they had used before.
Speaking after Friday prayers at Masjid Al-Muqarrabin in Bandar Tasik Selatan, Anwar told reporters there were no conditions on any MP receiving allocations under the CSA, Free Malaysia Today reported. He said the Budget was being debated and was expected to be passed by the end of the year, according to the New Straits Times and The Star.
Thirteen MPs signed on Thursday
The CSA was signed on October 29 by 13 MPs: six Bersatu MPs led by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, and six independent MPs who had earlier declared support for Anwar, the New Straits Times reported. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof signed on behalf of the government.
Under the agreement, the MPs will support Budget 2027 and the government until the end of the current parliamentary term. The government in turn will give them constituency development allocations equal to those received by government MPs, and has committed to institutional reforms, including limiting the Prime Minister’s tenure and separating the roles of the Attorney-General and the Public Prosecutor, according to Malaysiakini and the New Straits Times.
Muhyiddin told reporters after the signing that the agreement was meant to bring stability so that issues affecting the public, particularly the economy and the cost of living, could be addressed, and that Bersatu would remain in opposition and continue to provide checks and balances, Malay Mail reported. Hours after the signing, the Dewan Rakyat passed the Supply Bill 2027 at the policy stage, Malaysiakini reported.
