KUALA LUMPUR — Team Rey have swept Team Vamos 3-0 in the MPL Malaysia Season 18 playoffs, winning their best-of-five upper bracket semifinal on October 29, 2026, to move within one series of the grand final and a place at the M8 World Championship.
The result, recorded by match tracker Esportsresults, sends the second-seeded side into the upper bracket final on October 30, 2026, at 7pm Malaysia time. Their opponents will be the winner of tonight’s second semifinal between regular-season table-toppers Selangor Red Giants and Bigetron MY by VIT, which starts at 7pm.
A long opener, then two quick wins
The series opened with a drawn-out first game. Esportsresults lists Game 1 at 33 minutes and 25 seconds, by far the longest of the three, before Team Rey took the lead.
Team Rey then wrapped up Games 2 and 3 in a little over 20 minutes each, at 20:21 and 20:22, to close out the sweep without dropping a game.
The win was not a foregone conclusion. Going into the semifinal, the two sides were level at three series wins each across their previous six meetings, according to Esportsresults’ head-to-head records. Team Rey won the most recent of those, a 2-0 result in the regular season on September 12, 2026. Esportsresults also notes that Team Rey have added NovaXcobar to their roster since that meeting.
Vamos drop to the lower bracket
The defeat is a sharp turnaround for Team Vamos, who opened the playoffs on October 28 with a 3-1 win over Team Flash to earn their shot at Team Rey. They are not out of the running: under the double-elimination playoff format, the loser of each upper bracket semifinal moves to the lower bracket.
Team Vamos will play the loser of the Selangor Red Giants and Bigetron MY by VIT series in the lower bracket semifinal on October 30 at 3pm, according to the published Season 18 schedule.
The two teams finished the regular season with identical 10-4 match records, according to the official MPL Malaysia standings. Team Rey placed second on game difference, with 22 games won and 11 lost, while Team Vamos finished third at 22-14.
Road to M8
Two M8 World Championship places are on the line in Malaysia, one for the champion and one for the runner-up. The winner of the upper bracket final goes straight to the grand final, which guarantees a top-two finish and a ticket to M8.
The lower bracket final is a best-of-seven on October 31 at 5.30pm, and the best-of-seven grand final follows on November 1 at 5.30pm.
For Team Rey, one more series win on October 30 would secure their M8 place. LNA Wave will follow the rest of the MPL Malaysia playoffs as they unfold.
