JOHOR BAHRU, Malaysia – On Monday, July 14, 2025, the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) CIQ Complex welcomed a high-profile visit from CP Dato’ Sri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, Director-General of the Malaysian Border and Enforcement Agency (AKPS), accompanied by Tuan Ismail Bin Mokhtar, Deputy Director-General (Management), and a delegation of senior AKPS management. The delegation was greeted at the main entrance of the JB Sentral Complex by Puan Roszita Dim, BSI Commander, and Tuan Mohd Faizal Shamsudin, Deputy Commander.

The program, which commenced at 4:00 AM, marked Dato’ Sri Mohd Shuhaily’s first visit to gain a firsthand understanding of the duties and challenges faced by enforcement agencies at BSI. The day began with an inspection of traveler screening operations at the JB Sentral Train Inspection Unit. The Director-General was then guided through the traveler clearance zone to Woodlands, observing the daily routine of commuters crossing the Johor Causeway to work in Singapore, as well as the congestion faced by officers during peak morning hours. The tour extended to the motorcycle and car inspection zones, providing a comprehensive view of operational dynamics.
The morning continued with a briefing at the Gambir Meeting Room, where Dato’ Sri Mohd Shuhaily was introduced to all enforcement agencies operating at BSI. Management delivered a presentation outlining the complex’s operational background. This was followed by a two-hour “Meet and Greet” session at the Selasih Hall, where staff from various enforcement agencies engaged with the Director-General. He underscored the critical role of officers in safeguarding the nation’s borders from potential threats, urging vigilance. The session also allowed personnel to raise welfare and human resource management concerns.
The site visit resumed with an inspection of the BSI import complex before a midday break at 12:00 PM. In the afternoon, Dato’ Sri Mohd Shuhaily and his team visited the Pasir Gudang Ferry Terminal and Johor Port for a similar engagement with AKPS personnel there.
The Sultan Iskandar CIQ Complex, recognized as Malaysia’s busiest international entry point and the world’s busiest land border crossing, handles nearly 400,000 travelers daily. This volume necessitates seamless inter-agency collaboration to ensure effective operations. Dato’ Sri Mohd Shuhaily’s advice on fostering harmony and a clear understanding of roles among enforcement agencies is expected to cultivate a sustained culture of multi-agency teamwork.
The visit is seen as a strategic step toward enhancing border security and operational efficiency at this critical gateway, with potential implications for future policy and resource allocation.
