TEHRAN Oct 11, 2026 – Iran has told Saudi Arabia it is ready to help arrange peace talks with Yemen, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a phone call with his Saudi counterpart on Sunday.
Araghchi informed Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud that Tehran stands prepared to provide any assistance needed to initiate dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen and to support a political solution to the conflict, according to Iranian and Saudi official statements. He stressed that regional crises have no military solution and that continued reliance on force would only deepen instability.
The offer follows a sharp escalation in fighting. Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi forces struck King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, killing 13 people and injuring more than 300, Saudi authorities said. It was the deadliest attack inside the kingdom in more than a decade. Saudi air operations against Houthi-held areas in Yemen have intensified in recent days in response to repeated missile and drone attacks on Saudi territory.
The phone call marked the first publicly reported contact between the two foreign ministers since the latest round of Houthi strikes began. Diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia were restored in 2023 under a China-brokered agreement after a seven-year rupture. Embassies in both capitals have remained open since then, even as proxy tensions linked to Yemen have periodically flared.
Araghchi’s statement reflects Tehran’s public position that the Yemen conflict requires a political rather than military track. Saudi Arabia has led a coalition intervention in Yemen since 2015 aimed at restoring the internationally recognized government after the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa. The war has killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions, with intermittent ceasefires failing to produce a lasting settlement.
Neither side has yet indicated whether formal talks will follow the Iranian offer. The developments come amid broader regional tensions involving multiple fronts in West Asia.
